BARBLESS PELLET HOOKS – TESTED
FOX MATCH SERIES 2 CARP
These short shank hooks have a big gape, long points and just the hint of a crystal bend shape. They have a black nickel finish and their high carbon wire is very strong without being over-thick. This pattern has a cult following due to its robustness and ability to land very big fish. It’s available in sizes 12 to 22 in both barbless and barbed. Another good all-rounder for pole and running line tackle, being able to combine with a wide spectrum of breaking strains in both mono and braid.
These hooks have the classic rounded shape, beaked in points and wide gapes associated with good pellet hooks, plus they are very strong due to their forged nature. This pattern has a shorter shank than normal, making it even more unobtrusive when sunk into soft pellet offerings and similar consistency baits like luncheon meat or corn. Once again the packaging is excellent with different informative baiting tips and suggested line strengths with each size from 8s to 20s.
Sizes range from size 8s to 18s with this Teflon impregnated bronze pattern. It has a slightly in-turned long point and is made from 110 carbon wire, with a medium shank. This wide gape, soft crystal bend shaped hook covers most pellet fishing requirements. It’s light enough for use with the pole and amply strong enough for running line tackle. The Teflon process really does work, making points more robust and last much longer, so it’s rare to have to change one of these hooks.
The packets containing these hooks are refreshingly informative, compared to the bland information most supply – and you get different useful tips with each size! The range covers 10s to 20s with this wide gape crystal bend design, plus its bronze finish and medium shank combine brilliantly with pellets. This hook is light enough to use for silver fish with its surprisingly fine wire gauge, but it’s also strong enough to tame bigger carp, thanks to its forged finish. Size 18s and 20s are a tad small.
Available in sizes 12 to 20, these bronze hooks have a more rounded shape and in-turned long points. The carbon wire is not over thick but very strong due to being forged. Combining this with a medium shank and wide gape creates a superb pellet design, but also a hook that covers most popular baits like luncheon meat, corn, worm, maggot and caster. Suitable for use with pole or running line tackle, also consistently robust and strong enough for serious bagging situations.
A strong, forged pattern but not over heavy in its wire gauge, making a superb pellet hook with its long in-turned point and wide gape nature. Available in 10s to 18s, which covers most popular pellet sizes. This wide gape design has a medium shank and bronze finish so it looks unobtrusive too. Strong enough to use with heavy pole tackle and also reliable with running line gear, but also light enough for big silvers and robust enough for bonus carp into double-figures. A brilliant performer!
