The Sonik Vader X 8000 Reel comes under the beady eye of Angler's Mail tackle editor Richard Howard. He's the No.1 products inspector, checking out loads of quality kit every week.

BACK in the summer I reported on the exciting Sonik Vader X carp rod and reel launch, and how much value for money it offered.

I promised to return to tell you about the individual products in more detail, and here’s the main carp reel in the range – the Sonik Vader X 8000.

Useful for those long chucks, when you need to go further, it comes with two forged, anodised, long-cast, aluminium spools, twin line clips and a spool capacity of

300 m of 0.40 mm line.

Considering that this reel retails for just under £50, with those sleek, matt black looks, plus the large diameter bail arm and roller and powerful front drag, you’re getting a lot of reel for your money here.

It comes with 5+1 ball bearings and a 4.6:1 gear ratio; the barrel-shaped wooden handle also gets the thumbs up.

This reel is a perfect partner for the 12 ft 2.75 lb to 3.5 lb Vader X Carp Rods, which were launched at the same time, especially if you can find them on a special offer of three rods for the price of two!
