Angler's Mail tackle editor Richard Howard is the No.1 products inspector, checking out loads of quality kit every week. Here's his lowdown on the Mitchell Avocast 7000 Black Edition Reel…

MITCHELL’S latest release for the carp angler includes this Avocast 7000, Black Edition big pit.

All black, including the aluminium spool complete with a dark wooden handle knob, it’s not a bad looker, which will win it some fans for sure.

The aluminium handle is a quick-fold design, another plus, even for those that like their reels ‘snug and folded’ on a rear buzzer bar. Why?

It comes with a 4+1 bearing configuration and a 4.3:1 retrieve, recovering about 83 cm of line per handle turn.

I hear the Mitchell team are reporting exceptional line lay thanks to its slow oscillation.

And with a spool capacity of a hefty 415m of 0.35 mm line, this is a reel geared up for ‘big chucks’.

There’s a similar spec but 4.8:1 gear ratio Avocast FS7000 design on offer too for those that would prefer a free spool option.

Price: £89.99.
