FOX XS CARBON

£6.25
Available in size 4s, 6s and 8s in both fully barbed and semi-barbed. Featuring a black nickel finish along with a needle eye. Each point is ever so slightly out-pointed, the hooks round bend creates a slightly wider feel, the forged splinter barb offering secure bait mounting. A heavy gauge carbon creates an extremely strong hook and although these won’t ever straighten on a hook-up, you may struggle to bend these out if snagged. The chemically sharpened points weren’t as razor sharp as most of the other hooks tested.
SCORE: 25/30

DRENNAN E-SOX EXTRA STRONG

£5.75
Available in size 4s, 6s and 8s in both fully barbed and semi-barbed. With a gunmetal metallic finish these trebles have a slightly longer shank than the others tested and contain a slim line eye. Each point is slightly in-turned and ground and chemically etched, the barb is low profile and shallow cut. The medium gauge wire creates a very strong reliable hook when playing a fish, they will be difficult to straighten in a snag situation though. The points, especially the barbed point, did seem to lack the ultra sharpness of some of the other hooks.
SCORE: 26/30

PARTRIDGE

£6
Available in size 4s, 6s and 8s, semi-barbed only and finished in a glare free matt black colour with a rounded eye. Each hook is out-pointed with a forged bend designed for better hook-holds, the barb has been kept purposely small for a safe catch and release. The fine gauge wire is deceivably strong, strong enough not to straighten whilst playing a pike but will bend in a snag situation and the points are razor sharp, the sharpest of all tested.
SCORE: 27/30

GREYS PROWLA SUPA CARBON

£4.99
Available in size 4s, 6s, and 8s in semi-barbless only and finished in a black nickel colour featuring a slim line eye. Parallel points to shank and a round bend create a balanced feel to these hooks. The barb is adequate for both bait retention and hook removal. Created from a medium gauge wire, these trebles are strong enough not to straighten during a hook-up yet are able to be straightened under extreme force in a snag situation. The hook points are chemically sharpened yet lack the razor sharpness of others tested.

E.T. KING SHARP

£5.80
Available in size 4s, 6s and 8s in both fully barbed and semi-barbed. This low glare black nickel finished hook comes with a rounded eye. Parallel points to hook shank and a high bend create long points. The shallow barb is large enough for good bait retention but small enough for easy removal.
