dodgy-big-pikeREPORTS of a 36 lb 3 oz pike from the River Thames have come under scrutiny as the angler did not actually weigh the fish.

The catch made from Thames backwater, Castle Mill Stream in Oxford, stunned anglers.

But since the news broke it has come to light that lure angler Stefan Catalin’s specimen did not go on any scales. On his own Facebook wall, Stefan noted its length – an impressive 1.25 m (125 cm).

If it was 36 lb 3 oz, the 29-year-old Londoner would have broken the 34 lb 2 oz pike record for the Thames.
