ANGLERS are getting behind the Fish Fight launched last week by Channel 4 to try and protect dwindling fish stocks at home and around the world.

Keen angler and top chef Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall figure-headed the campaign to try and promote better commercial fishing techniques, practices and policies.

A whopping 582,938 had signed up in support at www.fishfight.net including all the Angler’s Mail editorial team when this website story went to press. Numerous celebrities also backed Fish Fight including Ricky Jervais, Harry Hill, Martin Clunes and Rob Da Bank.

Hugh’s Fish Fight shows included how commercial fishermen in the North Sea had to chuck back half their catches dead including prime 20 and 30 lb cod because of barmy European Union restrictions.
