ANGLERS’ favourite bird – the handsome and iconic kingfisher – has made an amazing comeback with a new wildlife survey showing sightings have trebled.

In an annual survey for British Waterways, the number of kingfishers seen by the public between March and September rose an astonishing 217 per cent to 596. An incredible expansion in numbers in just one year!

While fish-munching cormorants and otters aren’t as welcome to most anglers, this rise in the kingfisher population has been warmly welcomed.
