ONE of the biggest Thames barbel ever was landed last week at 15 lb 14 oz to Mario Hutchins. It's a huge weight for a summer fish from the river.

The giant Thames barbel fell to river regular Mario on the free stretch upstream of Homebase at Staines in Middlesex, using a Baitcraft T1 boilie.

The 51-year-old fencer from Chalfont St. Giles in Buckinghamshire had only just got to the swim.
