LEAD quantity surveyor James Gould was chuffed to equal his perch PB with a 2 lb 13 oz sample from a Trent tributary – but then was thrilled to catch this 4 lb 3 oz river monster on his next cast.

The 32-year-old from Sheffield, South Yorkshire said: ‘I opted for a roving approach trying to cover as many haunts possible. I did this using a 13 ft match rod, 6 lb line straight through to a size 10 hook with a big lobworm fished below a 1 SSG Chubber float.

‘I droppered each swim with red maggots and chopped worms and then continued to loose feed maggots every few minutes to get the smaller fish into a frenzy to attract the perch in.’
