CATCHING a big Thames barbel is no easy feat, but Neil Wayte banked two absolute monsters in the space of just a few days.
Thames barbel fan Neil tackled an undisclosed stretch of the middle reaches for a 16 lb 10 oz specimen (pictured) before returning the next day to land fish of 12 lb 10 oz and a 17 lb 13 oz.
The big ‘un is one of the biggest barbel ever caught from the Thames and falls just 5 oz short of Guy Robb’s 18 lb 2 oz river record that was caught almost exactly a decade ago.
Surrey-based Neil, 54, revealed: “I’ve been fishing the stretch regularly for the past four years and had caught fish to over 15 lb previously.”
