ANGLERS have proved there’s more to the River Thames than tonnes of raw sewage that the national media have portrayed after David Walliams’ epic 140-mile charity swim.

It was the turn of rods on the middle reaches to show the quality of what lurks under the surface, and a stretch near Marlow, Buckinghamshire, starred with this jumbo 17 lb 3 oz barbel, pictured.

Captor John Hance has been tweaking his rigs but thinks his pellet and lobworm bait combo is a winner.

And a free stretch near Reading, Berkshire, gave Jeff Wootton a jumbo 25 lb 6 oz pike while using small lures for perch.
