SCHOOLBOY Daniel French had a dream session on Hampshire’s River Test on New Year’s Day with this PB 28 lb 10 oz pike in a great catch.

The seven-year-old from Blunsdon, Wiltshire, added other pike of 19 lb 15 oz and 16 lb 13 oz and two 4 lb brown trout in an eight-fish catch using trotted sardines and trout fished mid-water.

He caught the biggest fish using a wire trace he made at a junior Pike Anglers Club teach-in, and he christened his new 8ft Korum snapper lure rod and Greys GFS reel in style.

Dad Matt said: “Dan was shaking with excitement! He had to borrow my jacket as we forgot Dan’s jacket and it started pouring down when the big fish struck. He beat my PB and I only managed one jack pike to save a blank!”
