All-rounder Mike took the amazing mixed haul fishing from his boat on an undisclosed stretch in the lower reaches.
Mike, 32, from Midhurst, West Sussex, said: ‘It was an awesome day. I caught chub, perch, pike, roach, dace, bream, gudgeon, bleak and a hybrid.
‘I started off trotting to catch a few livebaits and got a bucket full in no time, which was lucky but I really enjoyed that and could have carried on all day.
‘But bites were thick and fast on the trotted livebait rod, with plenty of perch and pike, but then had a near 4 lb chub, followed next cast by a monster 7 lb 4 oz fish.
‘I thought it was a pike all the way back to the boat, just due to the weight of it in the flow, but had the shock of my life when I saw it had scales.
‘It wasn’t a particularly long fish, but I have never seen a chub that had so much depth and girth. It fell for a bleak livebait, on which I have had quite a few chub in the past from this bit of the river.
‘My mate Phil Morton who was with me had a 7lb fish from the stretch last year but it is definitely a different fish.
‘All the fish came on my trusty 1.25 lb Drennan Specialist Avon rod, which I rate as the perfect rod for this style of fishing. End gear was straight forward, with a size 6 Super Specialist tied to 6 lb fluorocarbon, with a Drennan 6 gr piker float,’ he added.
