MYSTERY surround what species this 10 lb silver stunner is – but it could be Britain’s first ever asp!
Schoolboy Sonny Fowler caught the amazing fish from day ticket Churchgate Fishery near Battlesbridge in Essex and presumed it was an ide as the day ticket complex is full of them.
But experts believe it could be an asp that could have easily slipped through unnoticed when ide were stocked there five years ago.
Ide are quite common on the continent but asp as still quite a rare species even in their favourite native venues.
But the picture quality of Sonny’s catch also suggests the fish could be an unusually shaped ide. That means it could of been a contender for a British record as the official UK best stands at 8 lb 5 oz if the snaps had been better, allowing accurate identification.
