THE Forces Carp Classic pairs match fished by 38 anglers from the army, navy and air force plus emergency services proved to be a cracker on France’s Abbey Lakes.

Redcar lad Kevin Turner, who is stationed with the Army’s Light Dragoons in Norfolk, set a new venue record with a 79 lb 5 oz mirror. Called Shoulders, the giant is in the elite bracket of one of the top 20 known carp in the world.

It helped Kevin and partner David Golding to a convincing win with a combined 804 lb 5 oz to scoop a cool £1,625 and push Iain Fordham and Martin Brandon into second with 445 lb 9 oz.
