AN Environment Agency sting carried out on several rivers made TV news last week, bringing illegal fishing issues and fish poachers into the public’s living rooms.

Operation Stone was carried out by Agency officers equipped with night vision goggles as they had a purge on illegal fishing and taking fish for the pot.

A number of Midlands rivers including the Severn were visited and the efforts made the lead story of BBC West Midlands News.

Arrests were made, tackle was confiscated and fish that were bound for the table seized though sadly most had already met a grizzly end.

The Agency were unable to give specifics on Operation Stone due to impending prosecutions from the raid.
