topmouthFOR the first time the Environment Agency are to poison running water in what has been described as an ‘experiment’.

The move at Cuffley Brook, Enfield, North London, is to eradicate non native topmouth gudgeon but will also see the death of all the other fish in the waterway.

There also fears that as a tributary to the River Lea the poison, rotenone, may affect a wider environment.

Anglers and local residents are horrified by the issue despite assurances that the brook will be restocked.
