MATTHEW BAYNES has come close to the 4 lb mark for crucian carp a few times.... but finally broke the magic barrier with this 4 lb 1 oz 8 dr specimen.
The maintenance technician from Chichester, West Sussex, tackled an undisclosed Surrey stillwater where he enjoyed not just crucian carp in a brilliant mixed bag.
Matthew said: “With near perfect conditions I was surprised to see just one car in the car park.
“With a few visual signs to go on, I settled into a favoured area with a view to gradually building up my swim throughout the day.
“After a couple of early tench and a mid double-figure carp I started to get amongst the crucians, ending the day with 11 and six weighed over 3 lb.
“All fish fell to small flatbed Method feeders fished at 35 yards with Sonubaits F1 groundbait and 2 mm pellets and the hookbaits alternated between sweetcorn and 6mm pellets.
“Rigs consisted of 6 lb main line, 25g Drennan Flatbed feeders, a 4 inch braided hook length and a size 16 Drennan wide gape specialist hook,” he added.
