AN Angler’s Mail reader believes the River Thames has all but been abandoned by the Environment Agency to Close Season anglers that openly flout the no-fishing laws.

Kevin Knight (pictured) lives close to the river in Middlesex and is dismayed by how many people are fishing openly in broad daylight without being challenged.

He has suffered verbal abuse and intimidation when pointing out that they are breaking the law, and attempts to ring the EA and the Police have brought no response.

The 54-year-old former bus driver is a lifelong fisherman who saves up to buy two rod licences every year and respects the Close Season on the river only to see people without licences fishing when he can’t and not being challenged.
