SPECIMEN ace Neill Stephen looks like he has equalled the chub record and hopes to bring the British best back to a river.

The big fish ace tempted a 9 lb 5 oz monster from the River Lea in Essex in a dream early morning session.

Willesden, North West London-based Neill is now hoping the scales checks come back as accurate. There’s also a slight issue in the fact he weighed it in a carry bag but couldn’t get a weight reading for that.

The current record is a 9 lb 5 oz lump caught in 2007 by Andy Maker from Surrey’s then mega prolific Mercers Pit in Surrey.
