PIKE mecca Chew Valley has sprung in to life, producing this 36 lb 8 oz croc, the biggest of the season so far.

Terry Wheatly was the lucky man to bank the new personal best, making it an impressive seven 30 lb plus pike to his name.

The Essex-based motorcycle mechanic shattered his previous best for the species of 32 lb 2 oz.

It fell to a herring deadbait mounted on size 2 Owner trebles to a 28 lb wire trace. This was legered at 60 yards to the side of a weedbed.

The 52-year-old exclusively told Angler’s Mail: ‘I had lost a good fish earlier in the session that had found its way to the weedbed.
