The watch manager for the firefighting service was float fishing a livebait roach on Hertfordshire’s River Lea when the super-stripy struck beating his previous best of 3 lb 14 oz.

Dave, 50, who is a consultant for Radical Angling Developments, said: “I’ve been after a 4 lb perch for the last two seasons but have dropped just ounces shy.”
