LONG-established clubs in the Home Counties look set to lose access to the River Thames after owners Eton College decided to renegotiate leases.

Anglers that have fished the river in Berkshire for decades on club tickets will now have to choose between joining a higher-priced syndicate and going elsewhere.

Old Windsor AC has leased fishing around Romney Island for 40 years, but at present it has no agreement in place after March 14.

And other clubs such as the London Anglers Association, Maidenhead and District AA, the Thames Valley AA amalgamation of local clubs, and Salt Hill AC are in a similar position, with the latter said to be considering winding itself up rather than pay more.
