PRINCE WILLIAM’S successful marriage proposal to Kate Middleton came after an unsuccessful day on the bankside!

The heir to the throne popped the big question – to make the biggest national story for the next six months – after enjoying a fishing day for rainbow trout at Rutundu Log Cabins during a short break to Kenya.

Kate Middleton wrote on the Rutundu visitor’s book: ‘Thank you for such a wonderful 24 hours! Sadly no fish to be found but we had great fun trying. I love the warm fires and candle lights — so romantic! Hope to be back again soon.’

Lake Rutundu is well stocked with rainbow trout, average 2-3 lb with some specimens reaching 6 lb. Although as the couple found, can be tricky on occasions.
