AN epic battle resulted in this 71 lb 14 oz catfish – the biggest British fish that has been reported to the Mail this year.

Trainee electrician James Tozer was seeking carp at day ticket Furnace Lakes, near Horsham, West Sussex, when the mighty moggie struck.

Brighton-based James, 34, said: ‘I was doing a weekend’s carp fishing for my birthday with two friends and my nephew.

‘My mate Lewis noticed some silt plumes and bubbles coming from an area which features a 12 ft deep hole and I put a bait on it.
