THE war against the scourge that is foreign crayfish has heated up with the news British Waterways have been spending a whopping £250,000 to bolster their battle – and the banks.

The pesky critters are causing such widespread damage to the banksides that measures are being taken to seal the banks with plastic.

In a public statement last week, BW clarified their stance on controlling the non native American red signal crayfish.
