‘Killer shrimp’ on the loose

AN INVASIVE foreign species of shrimp, commonly known as the ‘killer shrimp’ has been found in the UK for the first time ever.

The aggressive predator can grow up to 3 cm long and preys on other native shrimp, invertebrates and even fish fry.

Voracious Dikerogammarus villosus has been found at Cambridgeshire’s Grafham Water by two keen-eyed anglers, who spotted them and sent samples to the Environment Agency for identification.
