World Angling Championships 2012 – day 1 rapid report

Angler’s Mail – No.1 for match fishing and all the best reports in modern angling – brings you this special first day rapid report direct from the 2012 World Championships in the Czech Republic. It’s from our man on the spot, Dave Johnson, who runs Matchangler.com

Will Raison with his day one B section weight of 2.396kg, which earned his England team 5 points.

Bleak rule the Morava

The first day of competition was probably not the best result Drennan Team England could have hoped for, but with just 10 points off championship joint leaders, Poland and Serbia, all is not lost.

Italy, however, have some serious praying to do as their 15th place, 20 points off the leaders, seems
irretrievable.

Bleak seemed the order of the day for just about everyone, yet there were encouraging big fish signs for some, as the day developed.

Sunday conditions look promising with more large bream, carp and the odd chub putting in an appearance, so don’t rule out anything where England are concerned!

Top teams:
1st Poland 19 points, 23.149kg
2nd Serbia 19 points 21.113 kg
3rd Belgium 24 points 22.775kg

Home nations:
9th England 29 points 19.265kg
22nd Scotland 60 points
32nd Wales 71 points
36th Ireland 78 points
