England win fishing’s Home International at a canter!

THE home nations competed in teams of four to round-off Fish’O'Mania weekend at Cudmore Fishery, north Staffordshire – and England blitzed it.

England retained their grip on the Home International title.

Drennan Team England – Will Raison, Des Shipp, Alan Scotthorne and Steve Hemingray – put on a powerful showing to win the Home International again.

‘Awesome, awesome performance – no other words to describe it really,’ raved Tom Pickering, pundit for Sky Sports 2 TV, who covered the weekend’s contests live throughout.

Preston Innovations ace Des Shipp was the best of a brilliant bunch, weighing in 32.600, with Daiwa star Will Raison second on 27.730.

Scotland fished well, inspired by South Yorkshire-based Jamie Masson (third individual with 27.270), but were always well adrift. They were second ahead of Ireland, with fourth spot going to Wales, who will feel disappointed.

Home International result: England 101.960 kg; Scotland 76.040; Ireland 61.970; Wales 50.710.

Meanwhile in Sunday’s Juniors Fishomania event, Joe Kent, from Harbury in Warwickshire, fished very well to win against a talented field of six. The Matrix-backed lad also won the trophy in 2010. His 14.500 kg was worth £1,000.

‘I wouldn’t be surprised if he fishes for England,’ noted Tom Pickering. ‘He’s very keen, very talented, and parents who run him around everywhere.’
