BONUS BAIT TIP from 5x World Champion Alan Scotthorne

Alan Scotthorne

Alan Scotthorne - master of roach (and most things that swim!)

Every week, Angler’s Mail magazine’s Action Replay feature brings you an exclusive feature revealing how get the best out of a certain tactic or trick.

The latest (February 8th) issue gets the lowdown on the winter baits approach favoured for lake roach by none other than the five-times World Champion, Alan Scotthorne MBE.

Alan discussed the bloodworm, joker and groundbait approach – but it’s NOT just any old feed!

Think about the amount of groundbait you are going to put in - especially feed with a high food content.

The mix and the method, revealed in Action Replay, is great in winter – but what about in a few weeks’ time?

Alan explained: ‘As the weather warms up, then more groundbait can be added, but not joker, as I rely on the groundbait to cover the joker more which will prolong the feeding period as the fish root around for tasty jokers.

‘My experience suggests it is always better to err on the side of caution, especially at the start, when it comes to the quantity of bait introduced. Once it is in the swim it cannot be removed, never forget that!’ he exclaims.

WISE WORDS – remember them before you go balling in the bait!

The right mix is key to success!
