At Bax Farm Fishery at Tonge in Kent day tickets on the Specimen Lake are £10, £15 for 24 hours. All the other lakes and stream are on a £7 day ticket or £11 for 24 hours. General Lake 3 on Tanyard Fisheries near Danehill in East Sussex is fishing particularly well for quality roach with lumps to 1 lb 12 oz caught and good numbers over a pound on the feeder with maggot. Some bream to 6 lb plus odd tench also showing mainly to the feeder with maggots. Day tickets are £9 one rod, £12 two. Top facilities include a café serving excellent breakfasts. On Littleton North Lake at Laleham, Middlesex most anglers appear to be targeting pike on sea deadbaits to catch pike to 17 lb 8 oz from the South Lake with fewer pike showing in the more coloured North Lake. The Match Lake on Sumners Ponds, Barns Green near Horsham in West Sussex is in terrific form with the match of a recent event weighing in 212 lb of mainly carp backed up with lots of 100 lb-plus catches. Day tickets are £8 one rod, £11 two plus concessions. Contact number is 01403 732539.

Lakes Christine and Pepper, the two specimen lakes on the Cottington complex at Sholden near Deal in Kent, are fishing very well. River Whitewater at Riseley Mill near the Wellington Country Park on the Hampshire/Berkshire borders. This has a population of barbel that appears to be packing on weight with rumours of fish to pushing 9 lb. This is a Farnham AS members only water. Birds Green at Ongar in Essex. The heavily stocked mixed lake continues to produce plenty of fish including carp, tench, skimmers, bream, roach, rudd and perch. Day tickets are £8 for two rods during the week, rising to £10 at the weekends. Get more on 01277 899007.

Elphicks Fisheries, Horsmonden in Kent. You will need to book night tickets and the specimen lakes well in advance. North, Pullens and West End are classed as specimen lakes with a 24-hour ticket for three rods £30. Ordinary lakes are £9 one rod, £13.50 for two. Full facilities on-site. Now the River Colne has had a good flush through the fishing is really picking up. The two free sections at Watford, Hertfordshire situated on the bankside of Cassiobury Park and about two miles on the downstream side of the A41 are well worth fishing. The River Cuckmere, upstream of Sharman’s Bridge near Berwick, East Sussex is an under-fished river holding plenty of quality fish.

This is for Southdown AA members only. Adults are £65 plus a one off joining fee of £10 – this covers a lot of waters, from the Polegate Angling Centre on 01323 486379.

The tidal Thames at Richmond is best fished at low tide for tonking dace with some roach and the odd perch and bream on the stick float with maggot.
