WELCOME to our latest daily blog, exclusively here on the Angler’s Mail website.
Thursday is our Big Fish Blog and it’s the turn of Pallatrax, our Specimen Cup sponsors. Team Pallatrax leader Clint Walker wrote this interesting instalment, covering specimen hunting, match fishing and more.
We hope you enjoy the blog, and share it with your friends on Facebook and Twitter by clicking the icons above.
TEAM PALLATRAX KEEP CATCHING INTO WINTER
NOVEMBER…. despite the intensely unpleasant weather, which has sadly curtailed many anglers’ trips to the bank, we have still got loads of captures to tell you about and new developments in the pipeline to share!
After recent reports of quality barbel falling to our baits, especially from the River Trent, we are pleased to share Barrie Sullivan’s successes using Pallatrax Bloodworm Squabs to land a number of barbel from his local rivers to an amazing 16lb 8oz. A new personal best!
Barrie combined his baits with rigs which included our Stonze weights to take his fish after winning some of our products in the recent Angler’s Mail Specimen Cup weekly awards. It’s always nice to know that winning anglers are using our products to good effect, so a huge congratulations to Barrie from all at Pallatrax!
Clint Walker, our media team manager, who ‘appeared’ on local radio last month obviously made a good impression as he has been invited up to record another interview with Martin James MBE presenter of “At the Water’s Edge”, a dedicated angling show on BBC Radio Lancashire which goes out every Thursday at 7pm on 95.5FM and 103.9FM.
Martin was awarded the MBE earlier this year for services to angling and also his charitable work, and is also a staunch Pallatrax supporter, so it’s always a pleasure (despite leaving home at 0530 on a Sunday morning to be there!) to go and discuss what is happening at Pallatrax and elsewhere within the angling world. The interview is pre-recorded and will go out shortly after….
So who else has been catching on Pallatrax baits? Paul Lingham has featured before in our blogs, and he is in again this month with the capture of a fine brace from Emperor Lakes in Devon. Paul offered our JUNGLE baits to bag a cracking mirror of 31lb 5oz, and then trapped a 26lb 8oz common after using a maggot hook bait over Pallatrax Jungle mash.
It’s a great result for Paul and Emperor Lakes who are really getting some recognition for the hard work they put in to provide quality fishing; an ideal advertisement for the quality of Pallatrax baits as we keep putting their biggest fish on the bank!
The Carp Society director Malcolm Tuckwell used Jungle squabs to take a smashing brace from an undisclosed water; Malcolm used a snowman presentation tied with Pallatrax Terminal Contact rig bits to take two fish of 24lb 8oz and 28lb 4oz from a weedy area at 70 yards. Malcolm was keen to tell us that his other rod, baited with ‘something else’ didn’t register so much as a sniff!
Darren Robinson and Richard Burnett, both of Team Pallatrax took part in their first ever doubles carp match and used a variety of Pallatrax baits to claim an impressive third place.
During the two day event, Darren landed carp to 24lb and Richard netted fish to 28lb, but it may be important to note they were only pair not to suffer any lost fish at all after using our own pattern ‘The Hook’ which is an extremely strong, wide gape hook designed to go in and stay in.
We are very proud of our team who are starting to gain an awful lot of plaudits in the angling press and we hope for more success during their next event.
Another of our team doing very well is match ace Tom Downing who took the title of overall winner during the recent two day event at Larford Lakes sponsored by Summerlands Tackle in Westward Ho!
Tom had to make it through the qualifying rounds before being drawn in an unfavoured peg on both days, but considerate feeding with Pallatrax Silkworm Crush groundbaits gave him the edge and he clinched the title 12lb clear of his nearest rival! Tom has already stated his intent to defend his crown next year, and as always, we will support him in his quest!
Within this blog, we get the opportunity to discuss many things and pass on our best wishes to people who support us, so I’d like to take the chance to wish valued Team Pallatrax member Richard Shaw well after he has unfortunately been subjected to an extended stay in hospital due to a debilitating illness. We hope to see Richard back out on the bank soon so we can read more about his angling adventures; get well soon mate!
Last month we told you how we had broken through the 2,000 ‘likes’ barrier on our Facebook pages; this month has seen another jump in the numbers of anglers seeking to share their knowledge and experience with us and enter into the friendly banter. An 8.5% rise may not seem like much, but it’s a further 170 (so far) who subscribe to what we do, and we appreciate each and every one of you!
We know our ‘Heated Debates’ are still proving popular, as our weekly competitions to win bait and tackle prizes, but it’s the constant interaction between our guests who make it so much fun! You can join us at www.facebook.com/pallatrax or ‘follow’ us on Twitter at @pallatraxuk for more immediate updates.
Our clothing supplier, Backyard Embroidery play an integral role in our exposure on the bankside as anglers choose garments of superb quality emblazoned with our logo to keep warm and look stylish whilst fishing.
There are plans in place to offer further items and designs to suit every angler, so please take a look at their website to see what they can do for you.
In addition to our clothing range, Richard Burnett and his team offer bespoke patterns across the whole workwear and leisurewear ranges and are certainly worth contacting for your club or team requirements.
Products in focus
For a number of years, one of our favourite baits has been Crave (Shellfish and Plum) a fishmeal based flavour containing Robin Red, milk proteins and ground seeds. Attractors include GLM, blended fish oils and a few ‘secrets’ and each is made with fresh, free range egg to provide a superb food source. Available in both 14mm and 18mm, Crave is also sold within our Squab range to offer something a little bit different. It’s a product we have been using for a long time and has accounted for huge numbers of big fish from a variety of venues both here and abroad.
To finish this month, we would like to express our condolences to the family of rising star David Moss who tragically lost his life whilst fishing recently. 16-year-old David was an incredibly popular Staffordshire-based angler who made many friends on the bank and will be sadly missed by all. A Facebook page dedicated to his memory has been set up by friends at Carp Crusaders, a social group to which David contributed; please pop in and add your tribute as anglers come together.
THE NEXT BIG FISH BLOG WILL APPEAR ON THURSDAY, DECEMBER 13.
