WELCOME to our latest daily blog, exclusively here on the Angler’s Mail website.
Next up on our Big Fish Blog is Korum, keeping you up to speed on what their whole team has been up to. The highs, the lows, and all the fun stuff in-between. This lively blog comes from media man, Adam Firth.

CATCHING IN THE COLD
I THINK it’s safe to say that winter is here. I certainly have noticed a drop in the amount of catch reports and pictures I see on various social networking sites.
The fishing definitely takes a bit of a hit at this time of year, with heavy rainfall, hard frosts and even the terrible flooding we’ve had recently all contributing to many anglers preferring the comfort of a nice warm fire and a hot cuppa instead of being out on a frosty morning trying their upmost to get a bite!
The Korum team have donned their Korum thermal suits and have managed to trick a few fish in the cold weather. Predator Expert Gary Knowles braved the high winds and freezing weather to spend two days bobbing about in the middle of what most would class as an inland sea, Grafham Water. Although the fishing was tough, Gary managed to bag a brace of double-figure zander for his efforts. Nigel Botherway has been catching some impressive pike on his Snapper Dura-Bung Kits from the River Wye with fish to just under 20lb.
Fishing machine Phil has been out doing what he does best – catching fish! Having spent a couple of weekend on the water catching huge amounts of pike, he’s now turned his attentions to perch. In just one session he managed to land no less than 20 2 lb perch and three 3lb fish. Now that’s good going by anybody’s standards.
I’ve been keeping up my perch hunt having lost a fish that was easily 3lb and a definite PB. I travelled four hours to visit Phil and shoot some pictures for the next Korum Fishing Made Easy magazine. Whilst I was there I managed to bag four perch of 1lb 10oz, 2lb 1oz, 2lb 1oz and 2lb 6oz, the biggest fish equalling my personal best. Getting closer, one day I’ll top the 3lb mark!
Brand Manager Mat Woods is still finding golf courses that aren’t closed to swing his clubs. He’s even been talking about night golf, playing with glow in the dark balls. There is talk of his rods making an appearance in the next week for a Fish Made Easy photo-shoot.
One sensible angler, Ade Kiddell took himself off to Spain in search of monster Comizo barbel. Escaping the cold weather in the UK, he managed to bag loads of barbel, carp and even some catfish, no monster’s but I think I’d rather be fishing in a t-shirt in Spain, than freezing in England – wouldn’t you?
Remember to keep yourself warm if you’re venturing out in the next couple of months; a decent set of thermals, a warm and waterproof suit, and last but not least a winter hat will keep you comfortable on the bank. A flask is also an essential for a nice warming tea, coffee or soup! If you’re going to the river make sure it’s safe – with the recent flooding we’ve had, the banks will be extremely dangerous and no barbel or chub is worth risking your life for.
