Christmas came early!

HAVING just returned from an absolutely incredible trip to the River Ebro in Spain, I have to talk about the trip first.

After a slow start, Essex’s favourite carp angler Steve Spurgeon finally hooked into one.

After the huge success of last years ‘Carp Fishing Edges’ Free DVD I was set the task of creating a similar vibe for the 2014 DVD. Undoubtedly the stand out section was Tom Maker taking Abby Lakes in France to pieces, bagging chunk after chunk.

I wanted somewhere that could top the excitement created by that trip and when Lewis Porter suggested we took a trip to the River Ebro, I thought that it could be just the place we were looking for.

Steve Spurgeon, Tom Maker, Andy Maker and Lewis Porter were the anglers put to the challenge and I followed them with my camera. To say the trip exceeded expectations would be a huge understatement. The scenery was stunning and the fishing unbelievable.

We were under the expert guidance of Ash, from CatMaster tours who put us onto a great looking spot close to Mequinenza. It took the lads a little while to get used to the fishing situation, which was completely different to anything they had encountered in the UK.

Using a boat to take their rigs to a drop off at 300 yards and having to cope with the constantly altering flow proved quite a challenge, but the lads were rewarded with four fish on the first day up to a beast of a 38lb common for the flu-ridden Lewis.

The second day was a different kettle of fish all together and the action kicked off big style, with a flurry of fish in the morning, including yet more upper 30’s. The action continued in similar fashion for the remainder of the trip, Tom Maker bagged himself a unit 43lb PB common on a cast and Steve had two fish that were even bigger! How big I hear you ask? Well you will have to wait till spring 2014 to find out, but it will make for awesome viewing, that is for sure.

Tom bagged a new PB common weighing over 43lbs!

Steve bagged the biggest of the trip, it’s always a great moment watching a huge carp swimming back to the depths.

Well I am going to sign off there for the last Fox blog of 2013. That just leaves it for me to say Have a superb Christmas and I hope 2014 bring you your best season ever!
