WELCOME to our latest daily blog, exclusively here on the Angler’s Mail website.

Thursday is our Big Fish Blog and it’s the turn of Pallatrax, our Specimen Cup sponsors. New Team Pallatrax leader Jez Brown wrote this interesting instalment, covering specimen hunting, match fishing and more.

We hope you enjoy the blog, and share it with your friends on Facebook and Twitter by clicking the icons above.

VERY WET & VERY COLD BUT THE FISH ARE BITING!

THE last few weeks have been very tough for the angler with flooded rivers and pits followed by a rather snowy spell leaving rivers full of salty snow melt and in the fields.

Starting on massive positive note huge congratulations to Steve Ricketts as he is announced the first Pallatrax Specimen Cup winner with his amazing eel haul being the highlight of Steve’s year. Full coverage is in this week’s brilliant Angler’s Mail magazine.

Well done from all at Pallatrax as Steve picks up this year’s main prize of £3,000. Congratulations also goes to the four runners-up and well done to all the monthly winners and weekly. We hope you enjoyed entering, following the competition in the Mail – and we want to encourage more to participate over the next 12 months.

Great prizes every week – with Pallatrax and Angler’s Mail.

Team Pallatrax are an integral part of our brand but it has been a struggle for them to even get to the banks. Me (Jez), Luke and Ray have done a couple of days on a southern pit after the pike – we had a great time with 32 predators from 35 runs over the two days.

Here’s Luke and his 17lb+ Spomb assisted pike, caught in flooded conditions after torrential rain and wind, but what a day it was!!

Ray Pulford, renowned for his carp skills, has taken to employing his Spomb to shower his static dead baits with chopped fish and this has really paid off.

I’m sure some of you are doing this already and whilst Ray’s spot didn’t necessarily produce the most fish, it certainly gave us the biggest average and at one stage the pike were topping and fizzing just as well as any carp.

There has been some carp action in the form of team member Chris Shute who had this stunning cold water carp of 23 lb 10 oz – The fish was caught during the cold snap on Pallatrax Crave boilies.  Well done, Chris.

Tony recorded a hugely successful chub session on the Ouse

The fishing highlight has to come from Tony Miles – Tony enjoyed an unbelievable session chub fishing on the Ouse.

Fishing an Elixir 6 Squab wrapped in paste, Tony had five bites in all. One was missed but the others produced four great chub of 5-9, 6-7, 6-10 and an amazing fish of 7-2.

Quite a session and this was Tony’s fourth 7lb-plus chub.

So this month has been pretty decent for the Team, but we’d love to hear from any of you who are out and catching fish that we can include in our reports. Please keep us posted of your trips and any great tips you might have.

Let’s hope the last six weeks of the main coarse season are slightly more fishable and we look forward to hearing from you.

Don’t forget to start submitting your photos and reports to Angler’s Mail (click here for catch report form) for the chance of winning some great prizes in this year’s Pallatrax Specimen Cup – it could be you!!

Good luck and be careful out there.
